Bullhead City, Arizona

Bullhead City is a city located on the Colorado River in Mohave County, Arizona, United States, roughly 90 mi (140 km) south of Las Vegas, Nevada, and directly across the Colorado River from Laughlin, Nevada, whose casinos and ancillary services supply much of the employment for Bullhead City. Bullhead City is located on the southern border of Lake Mohave. According to the 2010 census, the population of the city is 39,540.[3] The nearby communities of Laughlin, Needles, California, Fort Mohave and Mohave Valley bring the Bullhead area's total population to about 100,000, making it the largest micropolitan area in Mohave County.[4][5]

With over 59 square miles, Bullhead City is the largest city in Mohave County in terms of total land area.[6]

Salome, Arizona

Salome (locally /səˈloʊm/, Tolkepaya Yavapai: Wiltaika) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in La Paz County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,530 at the 2010 census.[2] It was established in 1904 by Dick Wick Hall, Ernest Hall and Charles Pratt, and was named after Pratt's wife, Grace Salome Pratt.[3]

Salome is located in eastern La Paz County at 33°45′49″N 113°36′31″W / 33.76361°N 113.60861°W / 33.76361; -113.60861 (33.763728, -113.608555).[4]U.S. Route 60 runs through the community, leading east 54 miles (87 km) to Wickenburg and west 25 miles (40 km) to Interstate 10 between Brenda and Quartzsite.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the Salome CDP has a total area of 33.3 square miles (86.3 km2), all of it land.[2]

Heber-Overgaard, Arizona

Heber-Overgaard is a census-designated place (CDP) in Navajo County, Arizona, United States. Situated atop the Mogollon Rim, the community lies at an elevation of 6,627 feet (2,020 m).[2] The population was 2,822[3] at the 2010 census. Heber and Overgaard are technically two unincorporated communities, but as of the 1990 census, their close proximity has led to the merged name of "Heber-Overgaard".

Heber was settled in 1883, by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), and the town is named after either Heber J. Grant or Heber C. Kimball, both prominent members of the LDS church.[5] Overgaard, adjoining Heber, was settled c 1936 and was named after the owner of the first sawmill, Niels Kristian Overgaard.[6]

Heber-Overgaard's early economy was founded on dry farming and ranching while tourism, retirement and timbering are the basis for present day industry.

Golden Valley, Arizona

Golden Valley is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP) in Mohave County, Arizona, United States. The population was 4,515 at the 2000 census.

Golden Valley, Arizona was named after a company from Hollywood, California, that went into partnership with Crystal Collins to develop most of the land south of Highway 68 into 2.5 acre parcels. The company’s name was Golden Valley Development Company. The land was split into 2.5 acre parcels and sold for $695 each: $10 down and $10 per month.

The community of Golden Valley lies in the Sacramento Valley, separated from the larger neighboring cities of Kingman and Bullhead City by the surrounding mountain ranges. Arizona State Route 68 runs through the heart of Golden Valley, connecting it to Kingman and Bullhead City, which lie at each end of the route. Arizona 68 also functions as Golden Valley's "main street." At the eastern end of Golden Valley, Arizona 68 terminates at U.S. Route 93, which leads to Kingman to the south, or Las Vegas, Nevada to the north.

Camp Verde, Arizona

Camp Verde (Yavapai: ʼMatthi:wa; Western Apache: Gambúdih[4]) is a town in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of the town is 10,873.[2]

The town hosts an annual corn festival in July, sponsored and organized by Hauser and Hauser Farms. Other annual festivals include Fort Verde Days (October); the Pecan, Wine and Antiques Festival (February); and the Crawdad Festival (June).[citation needed]

The 42.6 sq mi (110 km2) town is intersected by I-17, extending 8 miles (13 km) to the west and 10 miles (16 km) to the east of the interstate. Three freeway exits provide local access: Exits 285, 287, and 289. The town's historic downtown is approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) from I-17 and contains a grocery store, physician facilities, shopping, dining, historical museum, Fort Verde State Historic Park, chamber of commerce/visitor center and town offices. Camp Verde is located at 34°34′0″N 111°51′22″W / 34.56667°N 111.85611°W / 34.56667; -111.85611 (34.566713, -111.856194).[5]

Dateland, Arizona

Dateland is both a CDP and a populated place in Yuma County, Arizona, United States. It is in an area well known for date palm dates.

Dateland has the ZIP Code of 85333; in 2000, the population of the 85333 ZCTA was 852.[4]

The community is part of the Yuma Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Concho, Arizona

Concho is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Apache County, Arizona, United States. Concho is located on Arizona State Route 61, 14 miles (23 km) west of St. Johns. Concho was the original site for the state capital, due to its prosperous farming.[citation needed] As of the 2010 census, the Concho CDP had a population of 38.[4]

Concho has the ZIP code 85924.[5] The United States Postal Service operates the Concho Post Office along Arizona State Route 61.[6]

Originally Concho was formed as a Spanish Basque community in the late 1860s. A group of Latter-Day Saints led by William J. Flake arrived in 1879 after Flake and Bateman H. Wilhelm purchased some of the land from José Francisco Chaves under the direction of Apostle Erastus Snow. The LDS community adopted the name Erastus in honor of Snow, but changed the name to Concho to match the continuing Mexican community in 1890.[8]

Bowie, Arizona

Bowie is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place in Cochise County, Arizona. As of the 2010 U.S. Census the population of Bowie was 449.[4]

Bowie first appeared on the 1910 U.S. Census as the "Bowie Precinct" of Cochise County.[6] It appeared again in 1920[7] and 1930[8] as a precinct. It reported a majority White population in 1930.[9] With the combination of all Arizona county precincts into 3 districts each in 1940, it did not formally appear again until 2010, when it was made a census-designated place (CDP).[10]

The community lies on Interstate 10 in eastern Arizona close to the western New Mexico border. The community is in the west of the San Simon Valley, as well as the northeast foothills of the Dos Cabezas Mountains. On Interstate 10, Willcox, Arizona at the Willcox Playa lies west-southwest; San Simon, AZ and Road Forks-Lordsburg, New Mexico lie east.

Tucson, Arizona

Tucson (/ˈtuːsɒn, tuːˈsɒn/) is a city in and the county seat of Pima County, Arizona, United States,[6] and is home to the University of Arizona. The 2010 United States Census put the population at 520,116,[3] while the 2015 estimated population of the entire Tucson metropolitan statistical area (MSA) was 980,263.[7] The Tucson MSA forms part of the larger Tucson-Nogales combined statistical area (CSA), with a total population of 1,010,025 as of the 2010 Census. Tucson is the second most-populated city in Arizona behind Phoenix, both of which anchor the Arizona Sun Corridor. The city is 108 miles (174 km) southeast of Phoenix and 60 mi (97 km) north of the U.S.–Mexico border.[6] Tucson is the 33rd largest city and the 58th largest metropolitan area in the United States (2014).

Major incorporated suburbs of Tucson include Oro Valley and Marana northwest of the city, Sahuarita[8] south of the city, and South Tucson in an enclave south of downtown. Communities in the vicinity of Tucson (some within or overlapping the city limits) include Casas Adobes, Catalina Foothills, Flowing Wells, Midvale Park, Tanque Verde, Tortolita, and Vail. Towns outside the Tucson metro area include Benson to the southeast, Catalina and Oracle to the north, and Green Valley to the south.

McNeal, Arizona

McNeal is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Cochise County, Arizona, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census it had a population of 238.[4] McNeal is located on U.S. Route 191 21 miles (34 km) northwest of Douglas. McNeal has the ZIP code of 85617.

According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, McNeal has a semi-arid climate, abbreviated "BSk" on climate maps.[6]
